Mahatma Gandhi - हिंदी अनुवाद
भारत में हम महात्मा गांधी को 'बापू' या 'राष्ट्रपिता' कहते हैं। उनका पूरा नाम मोहनदास करमचंद गांधी था। उनका जन्म 2 अक्टूबर 1869 को गुजरात के काठियावाड़ के पोरबंदर में हुआ था। उनके पिता का नाम करमचंद गांधी और माता का नाम पुतलीबाई था। उनकी पत्नी का नाम कस्तूरबा गांधी था।
गांधीजी एक सामान्य व्यक्ति की तरह जीवन जीते थे और विलासिता से दूर रहते थे। वे बचपन से ही बहुत ईमानदार और सत्यवादी थे। एक बार उन्होंने श्रवण कुमार की कहानी पढ़ी। श्रवण कुमार अपने बूढ़े और नेत्रहीन माता-पिता को बांस के डंडे से लटकी टोकरियों में बैठाकर ले जाते थे। अपने माता-पिता के प्रति श्रवण कुमार की भक्ति से गांधीजी बहुत प्रभावित हुए। उन्होंने श्रवण कुमार जैसा बनने और अपने माता-पिता की सेवा करने का निश्चय किया।
गांधीजी कानून की डिग्री प्राप्त करने के लिए इंग्लैंड गए। डिग्री प्राप्त करने के बाद वे 1893 में भारत लौट आए। विदेशी शासन के अधीन अपने देशवासियों को कष्ट में देखकर वे बेचैन हो उठे। इसलिए उन्होंने अपना पूरा जीवन गरीबों के उत्थान और देश को ब्रिटिश शासन से मुक्त कराने के लिए समर्पित कर दिया।
उन्होंने ब्रिटिश सरकार के विरुद्ध स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन का नेतृत्व किया। उन्होंने सत्याग्रह, असहयोग आंदोलन, दांडी नमक मार्च, भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन और सविनय अवज्ञा आंदोलन शुरू किए। अंततः भारत को 15 अगस्त 1947 को स्वतंत्रता मिली।
महात्मा गांधी पूरी दुनिया में अहिंसा के सिद्धांतों के लिए जाने जाते हैं। उन्होंने संत जैसा जीवन जिया और समाज में मौजूद हर प्रकार के अन्याय और असमानता का विरोध किया। वे रामराज्य स्थापित करना चाहते थे। उनके लिए राम और रहीम एक ही ईश्वर के अलग-अलग नाम थे।
देश के लिए उनके महान योगदान के कारण भारतीय उन्हें 'राष्ट्रपिता' या 'बापू' कहते हैं। 30 जनवरी 1948 को नाथूराम गोडसे ने उनकी हत्या कर दी। तब से भारत में 30 जनवरी को शहीद दिवस (Martyr's Day) के रूप में मनाया जाता है।
