Play Things - हिंदी अनुवाद
कवि एक बच्चे को धूल में बैठकर एक टूटी हुई टहनी से खेलते हुए देखता है। बच्चा पूरी सुबह उस छोटी-सी टहनी के साथ खेलकर बहुत खुश है। कवि बच्चे के इस खेल को देखकर मुस्कुराता है।
कवि स्वयं अपने accounts में व्यस्त है और घंटों तक figures जोड़ता रहता है। शायद बच्चा कवि को देखकर सोचता होगा कि अपने सुबह के समय को ऐसे बेकार काम में क्यों खराब किया जा रहा है।
कवि कहता है कि उसने sticks और mud-pies में खोकर खेलने की कला को भुला दिया है। वह महँगे playthings की तलाश करता है और gold तथा silver के ढेर इकट्ठे करता है।
बच्चा अपने पास मौजूद किसी भी चीज से खुशी के खेल बना लेता है, लेकिन कवि अपना समय और शक्ति उन चीजों के पीछे खर्च करता है जिन्हें वह कभी प्राप्त नहीं कर सकता।
कवि अपनी कमजोर canoe में बैठकर sea of desire को पार करने के लिए संघर्ष करता है। इस प्रयास में वह यह भूल जाता है कि वह स्वयं भी जीवन के खेल में खेल रहा है।

Child, how happy you are sitting in the dust,
Playing with a broken twig all the morning.
I smile at your play with that little bit of a broken twig.
I am busy with my accounts, adding up figures by the hour.
Perhaps you glance at me and think,
"What a stupid game to spoil your morning with!"
Child, I have forgotten the art of being
Absorbed in sticks and mud-pies.
I seek out costly playthings,
And gather lumps of gold and silver.
