The Missile Man of India -
इसके बाद उन्होंने Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) से Aero Engineering में specialization किया।
उन्होंने Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) में 1958 में काम किया और 1963 में Indian Satellite Research Organisation (ISRO) से जुड़े।
Ballistic missile और launch vehicle technology के development में उनके काम के कारण उन्हें "Missile Man of India" कहा जाता है।
Wings of Fire, Ignited Minds, Target 3 Billion, Turning Point, India 20-20: A Vision for the New Millenium और My Journey जैसी books लिखीं।
भारत सरकार ने उन्हें Padma Bhushan (1981), Padma Vibhushan (1990), Bharat Ratna और Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration (1997) जैसे सम्मान दिए।
