रुबिना अपने माता-पिता के साथ एक गांव में रहती थी। उसके पिता एक factory में काम करते थे। वह Class 6 में पढ़ती थी और हमेशा अपनी class में प्रथम आती थी।
एक दिन जब उसके पिता घर लौटे तो वे बहुत कमजोर महसूस कर रहे थे। उन्होंने अपनी पत्नी से कहा कि वे एक गंभीर बीमारी से पीड़ित हैं और इस बीमारी का इलाज बहुत महंगा है। यह सुनकर रुबिना की मां बहुत दुखी हो गईं। उसके पिता को आराम की जरूरत थी, इसलिए उसकी मां ने उनकी जगह factory में काम करना शुरू कर दिया।
रुबिना ने school जाना बंद कर दिया क्योंकि उसे अपना अधिकांश समय घर पर अपने पिता की देखभाल में बिताना पड़ता था। वह अपनी पढ़ाई को लेकर चिंतित थी।
