The School Boy - हिंदी अनुवाद
यह poem एक ऐसे school boy के बारे में है जो गर्मियों की सुबह प्रकृति के बीच उठना और पक्षियों के साथ समय बिताना पसंद करता है। उसे birds का singing करना, दूर से huntsman के horn की आवाज और skylark का गाना बहुत अच्छा लगता है। वह इस वातावरण को बहुत आनंददायक मानता है।
लेकिन जब उसे गर्मियों की सुबह school जाना पड़ता है, तो उसकी सारी खुशी खत्म हो जाती है। School में वह पूरे दिन एक कठोर और थकाने वाली व्यवस्था के बीच रहता है। इससे वह दुखी और परेशान हो जाता है।
Poem में बच्चा अपने आपको एक ऐसे bird से compare करता है जिसे cage में बंद कर दिया गया हो। जिस तरह joy के लिए जन्मा हुआ bird cage में खुशी से नहीं गा सकता, उसी तरह डर और दबाव के कारण बच्चा भी अपनी natural खुशी खो देता है।
बच्चा आगे अपने father और mother से प्रश्न करता है कि यदि spring के समय छोटी buds को नष्ट कर दिया जाए और blossoms को खिलने से पहले ही रोक दिया जाए, तो summer में खुशी और fruits कैसे दिखाई देंगे। इसी प्रकार यदि बच्चों की खुशी को sorrow और worries से दबा दिया जाए, तो वे आगे चलकर कैसे खुशी से विकसित होंगे।

I love to rise in a summer morn,
When the birds sing on every tree;
The distant huntsman winds his horn,
And the skylark sings with me.
O! what sweet company.
But to go to school in a summer morn,
O! it drives all joy away;
Under a cruel eye outworn,
The little ones spend the day,
In sighing and dismay.
How can the bird that is born for joy,
Sit in a cage and sing.
How can a child when fears annoy,
But droop his tender wing,
And forget his youthful spring.
O! Father and mother, if buds are nip'd,
And blossoms blown away,
And if the tender plants are strip'd
Of their joy in the springing day,
By sorrow and cares dismay,
How shall the summer arise in joy,
Or the summer fruits appear?
